International Literacy Association Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #2 Amplify Reading

Amplify Reading (https://amplify.com/) is a literacy program for K–8 students that provides activities that are both fun and engaging to reach each student needs in reading and writing.  This program has a vast number of stories that are made to engage students in personalized reading instruction and practice.  Excite and engage your class with game-based learning within a literacy program that supports teachers in building their students’ skills in decoding, fluency, comprehension, and close reading. This program also integrates Science and Math into its literacy program so students can be engaged any subject.  Many of the contents in this program is interactive and very appealing to young learners and everything has been filtered by professionals in this area to so parents and educators can trust that the program is doing its job.

This program provides contents that are aligned to the core curriculum.  Addition programs are also focused on intervention programs including supplemental programs to address any level of students.  Not only are the stories made to be age-appropriate narratives, but they're also very engaging and will keep the student's interest peaked until the very end.

According to the many reviews that were given by not only educators but also by parents, this program is excellent and will surely have great results if it is used appropriately.  The only downside this program will have to some educators out there is that you have to pay for the subscription.  Besides that, I would definitely give this Literacy website 2 thumbs up.

Internet Tool#3: Google Docs

Whether for work or personal projects, word processors are one of the most popular apps/programs for desktops and laptops. Besides native apps like Microsoft Word, users can choose from a wide range of third-party word processing platforms that have a variety of unique features.   One word processor tool which is becoming more popular than the Microsoft Word is Google Docs.   This internet tool is popular for many reasons, but the one reason which tops all reasons for being popular is the fact that it is free.   Google Docs is part of the many apps that are provided by google and it is completely 100% free.   The only requirement this tool needs to work is a good and stable internet bandwidth.   Google Docs is one of the top word processing apps for both individual and collaborative use. Another great thing about Google docs is you do not need a flash drive to store the file, it is saved online so you can access the file from anywhere that has internet ac...

Internet Tools

One internet tool in which I will use and make sure my students utilize also is the  Google apps . Google has so many great apps, but I will only name some which I have find to be extremely helpful for both educators and learners. For those students who do not have MS Office, I will recommend them to use Google docs. This is a great word application to use because it automatically saves your work online and you can download it to the many word formats that are out there. Another google app I really like is the Google drive. I will use google drive to save files that are too large to send on email and then share it with my students so they can also access them through google drive. Google has many more apps that are great but I will only name those two. Another internet tool I like is the Prezi. This is a great way to do a presentation. I know Microsoft has powerpoint but Prezi is very simple and can add so many other options to a presentation. TeacherTube is another great internet ...

International Literacy Association Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #6

The International children’s Digital Library Foundation (ICDL) website was created to support the world’s children in becoming effective members of their local and global community while respecting and tolerating the diverse cultures, languages, and ideas throughout our world.   ICDL drives to make the best in children's literature available online free of charge.   One key factor that makes a website very useful to teachers is if they were free.   Most public schools do not have the extra money to pay for interactive materials so free materials is very important to teachers.   Another thing to note about this site is that it is a government funded website so any content in the site has been reviewed and filtered.   Even though the primary audiences for the ICDL are children from three to thirteen years old, children’s caregivers and educators as well as academics working in the field of children’s literature are also targeted since it is these people t...
