International Literacy Association Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #6

The International children’s Digital Library Foundation (ICDL) website was created to support the world’s children in becoming effective members of their local and global community while respecting and tolerating the diverse cultures, languages, and ideas throughout our world.  ICDL drives to make the best in children's literature available online free of charge.  One key factor that makes a website very useful to teachers is if they were free.  Most public schools do not have the extra money to pay for interactive materials so free materials is very important to teachers.  Another thing to note about this site is that it is a government funded website so any content in the site has been reviewed and filtered.

Even though the primary audiences for the ICDL are children from three to thirteen years old, children’s caregivers and educators as well as academics working in the field of children’s literature are also targeted since it is these people that also effect the literacy of a child.
This website is great for both students and educator because it has a large collection of interactive books and their all free.  I chose this website because of its goals in helping a diverse audience accepting all cultures.

Internet Tool#2: Read, Write, Think

ReadWriteThink is a website which has many types of resources both for teachers and learners. This interactive resource site allows the students to independently complete the interactive tools; whether it be a timeline or bio cube. This tool allows students the freedom to enter and edit information in an interactive format making the students more apt and excited about using the resources. The tools within the site, seem to be specifically created to adapt to lessons teachers often implement. The site has updated several of the tools that are often used with students for ease in use and better application. The site includes lesson plans, worksheets, categorized links to communication, searchable content, and more. The site also has a video section where both teachers and students can find literacy resource which are fun and educational. There is so much information included on this website that it is a little overwhelming, but for a free resource there is so much potential for le...

International Literacy Association Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #4

The fourth website I have picked for effective literacy is Read to Me International ( http://www.readtomeintl.org ).   Read To Me International is a non-profit organization which promote reading aloud through a couple ways.   This Organization has programs which coach parents in the schools in Hawai‘i to read aloud to learners of all ages.   You will also find Presentations and workshops for parents, educators and other interested groups.   This website’s main mission is to share the love and joy of reading aloud.   According to the website, the main goals for this non-profit organization is to ensure that every child is read to every day for at least 10 minutes.   The website provides videos and lessons on reading aloud techniques so anyone browsing through the website can learn the simple steps of reading aloud and how fun it is when it is being done to young learners.               One ...

Internet Tools

One internet tool in which I will use and make sure my students utilize also is the  Google apps . Google has so many great apps, but I will only name some which I have find to be extremely helpful for both educators and learners. For those students who do not have MS Office, I will recommend them to use Google docs. This is a great word application to use because it automatically saves your work online and you can download it to the many word formats that are out there. Another google app I really like is the Google drive. I will use google drive to save files that are too large to send on email and then share it with my students so they can also access them through google drive. Google has many more apps that are great but I will only name those two. Another internet tool I like is the Prezi. This is a great way to do a presentation. I know Microsoft has powerpoint but Prezi is very simple and can add so many other options to a presentation. TeacherTube is another great internet ...
